ok so this section seems to have been lacking some howl as of late, i figured since i finally had a chance to playtest this in a few friendly games I'd post it up for critique. constuctive comments and criticism always welcome

HQ- Wolf Lord, Frost Blade, Plasma pistol, runic armor, Belt of Russ, Saga of the bear 220 pts

Elites- 5 Wolf Scouts, MotW, Melta, pwr. weapon, plasma pistol 130 pts
Elites- 10 Wolf Guard, 5x pwr. weapon, 5x pwr. Fist 330 pts

Troops- 10 Grey Hunters, 2x plasma, MotW, plasma pistol, pwr. wpn 205 pts
Troops- 10 Grey Hunters, 2x plasma, MotW, plasma pistol, pwr. wpn 205 pts
Troops- 10 Grey Hunters, 2x melta, MotW, plasma pistol, pwr. wpn 200 pts

Heavy- 6 Long Fangs, 2 hvy bolters, 1 missle, 2 las cannon 160pts
Heavy- 6 Long Fangs, 2 hvy bolters, 1 missle, 2 las cannon 160pts

1610 points total 58 models

Alright so depolyment is simple enough long fangs go to the best fire lanes available and get ready to hit vehicles/troops in the same turn, scouts are in reserve, and 3 powerfists go out to the Greyhunter squads via wolf guard, remaining 7 go with the wolf lord, and the Greyhunters seize objectives (if applicable) or charge the field untill they get in range to do some damage.

I'm looking to get this into 1850 range I was thinking another squad of grey hunters with melta but i'm not sure where to spend the remaining points, filling out the scouts maybe? I'm trying to stay away from armor for practical and fluff reasons, it just seems to easy to kill unless leveraged en mass, and it doesn't go with the fluff i'm developing. any thoughts/questions/ constructive comments?

Well, you need a speed element; if you're not going to get rhinos, I'd suggest bikes. They have a very Wolf feel to them, IMO, and will be very useful against many people.

Blood Claw bikes? I don't know if they'd do well WS&BS 3 and they have to charge anything they can.

Skyclaws are the best SW fast attack choice for their points cost.

I'd just get some Rhinos or drop pods for the GH and WG instead of a fast attack choice. I personally don't like the loadout on the LFs. I think ML spam is the best call for them. That or 2 HBs and 3 Las. Lot of points in one HQ character. Termie armor, FW, and SS is the best call for a Wolf Lord. That or a TW mount.

I'll take ur advice on the wolflord seems better now that I think about it. I'm really trying to stay away from armor or transports of any kind. I'm getting the fluff to be of a great company on a great hunt and the armor and transports were long ago destroyed, one reason I'm not really using bloodclaws either, because they either died or were promoted in the field. Though I'm thinking maybe a 10 man squad of them?

If that's the case, I think you need more scouts and maybe some lone wolfs. Maybe look into a WG unit on bikes. My line of thinking is that the GH would find the target and the WG and Lord would swoop in to finish it off.

yeah that was kinda of the idea, GH find and destroy what they can if something proves to be too tough for 5+ plasma rounds and assorted power weapons, then the Wolf guard and lord take it out, or if something seems to be to big of a threat to lose the GH then again the Wolf guard take it. Alright so then the final would look something like this?

HQ- Wolf Lord, Termie Armor, Storm Shield, Frost Blade, Saga of the Bear 210 pts

Elites- 5 Wolf Scouts, MotW, Melta, pwr. weapon, plasma pistol 130 pts
Elites- 5 Wolf Scouts, MotW, Melta, pwr. weapon, plasma pistol 130 pts
Elites- 10 Wolf Guard, 5x pwr. weapon, 5x pwr. Fist 330 pts

Troops- 10 Grey Hunters, 2x plasma, MotW, plasma pistol, pwr. wpn 205 pts
Troops- 10 Grey Hunters, 2x plasma, MotW, plasma pistol, pwr. wpn 205 pts
Troops- 10 Grey Hunters, 2x melta, MotW, plasma pistol, pwr. wpn 200 pts

Fast Attack- 5 skyclaws, power weapon 105 pts

Heavy- 6 Long Fangs, 2 hvy bolters, 3 las cannon 175pts
Heavy- 6 Long Fangs, 2 hvy bolters, 1 missle, 2 las cannon 160pts

1850 points 68 models

I think I would go less on WG and more on scouts. As the scouts need to be holding up the enemy, while the rest of your army advances. Maybe kit them out for CC and attach a WG to beef them up even more.

Also going to need a WG or IC to go along with the Skyclaws. To rein them in.

I dont have your codex handy, so I can't be sure, but do termy characters get a discount on Storm Shields? If not, it seems like a waste to spend all those points on a 2+/5+ then turn around and buy something else for invulnerable anyway, especially since it also restricts other options. Why not, if you need an IC for your skyclaws, put your character with them; all you need to do is replace his termy armour with a speed item...

Kinda, depends on how you choose it. If you replace your SB for a SS, it's 25 points; but if you swap your PW for a SS, it's 15 points.

Best option is to take a WL on a TW mount and give him a SS and PF. That's 180 pts. For a guy with 5x S 10 attacks at WS 6.

Even better would be to take a WGBL equipped the same wat. He weighs in at 150 points.

For 30 points you are getting an additional point in WS and Wounds.
