Hey all, maybe you dont know but there has been a huge discussion on this at DakkaDakka.com and i as wondering about your input...
Basically this is it: in the new rules, a vehicle checks LoS down it's wepon barrels. In the old rules, walkers where considered infantry when shooting, which meant they had a 360 degree field of vision around them. In the Dreadnought's Fire Frenzy rule it says it must "pivot on the spot towards the nearest visible unit-friend or foe!". The new rulebook says that "unlike infantry, a walker has a facing, which influences where it can fire at". So does this mean that if you roll a 1, you look down the dreads guns towards the nearest visible unit, which is a 45 degree arc in front of the dread? thanks for any insight on this.

Doesn't seem to be a question at all; you will not pivot, since the nearest VISABLE enemy is the nearest VISABLE enemy...If it says "pivot to face the nearest unit" THEN you pivot. Get the exact wording on here to be safe, but it seems like an obvious answer to me.

the CSM codex says the dread must "pivot on the spot towards the nearest unit, friend or foe!". The way this is worded seems to be at odds with the way the rulebook is worded. I know that codexes override the rulebook, but i dont think the codex changes the way walkers check LoS. This really improves dreads if it is true.

That said, the rule is simple: you pivot to face the nearest unit and fire at it; by pivoting you put it into your LoS, so the current LoS rules are satisfied, and you follow all the codex rules to the letter, so those are satisfied. In short, nothing changes.

I agree with Soul. I dont know why you are questioning the rules when it says in the codex exactly what it does. The rulebook says it has a face, so that is why it pivots to face the nearest unit. You aren't going to pivot towards the furthest, and thens ay you can't shot the closest. You pivot to the closest, then shoot.
Twice. =P
